1955 GMC 2nd Series Stepside Truck "Texas Truck"

This is a nice find! A second series 1955 GMC Stepside 1/2 ton pick up truck.

The original Pontiac V8 Engine was removed and updated with a 400 small block V8 engine,(by the previous owner), but developed a bad knock...it required rebuilding, or replacement....we chose replacement.

We removed the bad motor, repaired and refinished the under hood area and painted it satin black. We then built and installed a fresh small block V8, installed a rebuilt turbo 350 automatic transmission, and lots of chrome for the engine and a set of polished stainless steel headers were also installed.

We also made a new dual exhaust system and replaced the brakes. We also polished the alloy aftermarket wheels and installed new Goodyear white lettered tires.

We will keep the exterior with it's original "Texas patina".

There were some small rusted out areas in several of the panels. We cut out all of the rusty areas and made new patches and welded the new pieces in. We then smoothed each area and applied grey primer.

We repaired the box area where needed, sanded primed, and painted the bed sides flat black.

We purchased new pine for the bed floor. We made the original 8 boards to the proper widths. We applied an exterior stain, and protected it with 5 coats of an outdoor varathane (to both sides). We sanded down the metal strips, primed and painted them flat black and installed the new bed with all new hardware.

We replaced the window regulators and weather strip along with new rubber seals. The interior door panels were recovered with a nice black vinyl (that looks like leather) and installed them with stainless steel hardware. The rear window seal was also replaced, and all 3 windows were tinted. The floor was given 2 coats of POR15 rust paint and a sound insulation was installed before we installed the new full length upgraded thick "loop style" carpet.

Decals were added to the exterior for an "old school" look and a "dixie horn" kit was installed for fun (The Dukes Of Hazzard Horn).
