These are becoming quite rare, and quite a desirable collectable VW Classic Vehicle!

This is a 1970 Volkswagen Singlecab truck. We looked over this vehicle for a client about a year ago.

We noticed that our depth gauge (that measures the depth from the outer painted surface to metal below) was having a problem measuring to the bare metal point.

This generally indicates numerous layers of paint and primer and/or use of thicker than normal body fillers.

Our client began the basic dis assembly before it arrived at our spa (they removed headlamps, marker lights, tail lights and bumpers).

We began by removing the engine lid door, the side parcel door and started to remove paint from the rear passenger section and worked our way down the passenger side of the vehicle.

It was surprising to see the large amounts of body fillers previously used in attempt to try to level out the body panels (metal patches were incorrectly welded on top of rusted out sections instead of properly cutting the rusted metal away and welding new panels flush to the original metal sections).

Both rear lower corners below the tail lights had no steel in those areas. We found an enormous amount of body filler packed on top of drywall mesh tape. When the body fillers were sanded down, it exposed the large areas where there was no steel.

It is good to see the areas that require new steel, we will be compiling a list of patch panels that we will be ordering soon.

We continued to sand the exterior exposing all of the nasty previously incorrect repairs done to this singlecab over the years.

The windshield was removed, along with the headliner, radio antenna, windshield wiper motor and washer nozzles, inner door panels, glass and trim from both of the front doors.

We also removed the floor rubber covering and seats along with the large front "VW" logo and front decal.

We will continue to sand the thick amounts of paint and body fillers to prepare this nice VW for its future steps on the road to restoration.
